Chinese word trainer — free, no sign-up
Reading a word list is not the same as knowing the words. Here every word comes back as six different kinds of question, and which one you get is decided by the scheduler, not by you — so you cannot prepare for the easy version.

Six kinds of question on one word
- Cards
- Recall the word from its meaning or pinyin, then check yourself.
- Build
- Assemble the sentence from tiles — word order is checked as a whole.
- Translate
- The same, but with extra words mixed into the tiles.
- Gap
- The word is hidden in a sentence — put it back from the sense.
- Lookalikes
- Tell the right character from ones that look or sound like it.
- Writing
- Write it in the grid. A stroke made out of order is refused.
Where the content comes from
The decks were written in Russian first, and the English side is not a machine translation of that: the example sentences were translated from the Chinese, and the word meanings were drafted from CC-CEDICT and then corrected by hand. In a trainer the meaning is the answer to the question, and a dictionary entry will not do as one.
Characters, pinyin, the word-by-word breakdown and the stroke data are shared between the two languages — there is nothing to translate in them, and keeping one copy means they cannot drift apart.
